How to Choose a Dentist
If you are looking for a new dentist in Centennial or elsewhere in South Denver, there are a lot of choices. It can be hard to find the right one for you. Here’s a brief guide to finding the best dentist.
Know What You’re Looking for: How can you find the perfect dentist if you don’t know what that means? The first place to begin your search for a dentist is in your mind, where you decide what you want in a dentist. Are you looking for high-quality cosmetic dentistry or just someplace that does routine maintenance? Do you like luxury or are you more comfortable with a bare-bones approach? Do you want services like sedation dentistry for anxiety? Deciding what you want is the first step in getting it.
Ask for Referrals: Talk to friends and family about their dentists to find out if anyone likes their dentist enough to recommend them. For most people, their dentist is just someone they work with, but a few may like their dentist enough to recommend them.
Research Online: Once you’ve gotten some potential recommendations, search online to learn more about recommended dentists and find other options.
While you’re online, check out reviews for dentists. Although it’s tempting to just look at the star ratings people give a dentist, it’s more important to read the reviews to learn details about how the dentist works and why people gave the rating they gave. Online reviewers are notorious for giving a 5-star rating to a dentist they’ve never been to, or giving a 1-star review because of some trivial reason (such as not getting a toothbrush).
Make sure candidates offer the services you want, and are accepting new patients.
Make Appointments: High-end dentists often offer consultations, which may be free, but more general dentists may require you to make an appointment for a check-up. If you’re going for consultations, make sure you schedule at least three so you can choose the right one.
Make a Decision: Choose the dentist that best meets your desired characteristics and gives you full confidence in their ability to provide you with proper dental care. Never, ever work with a dentist that makes you uncertain about the quality of their care, even if they are the least expensive.
